Approved Code Scheme Membership Details

Our Consumer Code of Practice

During its membership of the Approved Code Scheme, Test Autos Ltd. agreed to abide by a customer-centric Code of Practice administered by AA Cars (an accredited 'Code Sponsor' organisation). This Code of Practice - which is approved and regularly audited by Trading Standards professionals (representatives of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute) - ensures that member businesses offer higher levels of customer service and stronger consumer rights than those included in UK law alone.

In practice, membership of the Scheme involves agreeing to a range of measures that guard against 'sharp' sales practices (e.g. no cold-calling or hard-selling), or overly-complicated and misleading information about products or services. In addition, members ensure that their contracts, terms and conditions, and complaints process are all clear and fair. And, in the event that something goes wrong, they also agree to abide by a fast, inexpensive, and independent dispute resolution process. In this way, members of the Scheme set themselves apart from less reputable businesses – by clearly signalling that they are reliable, trustworthy and legitimate business that treat their customers with due care and attention at all times.

Unlike similar schemes, membership of the Approved Code Scheme isn't something businesses can simply 'pay and display'. Continued membership of the Scheme demands dedication to meet and maintain the strict consumer protection requirements of the Scheme, and a long-term commitment to raising standards across the entire sector.
